Instagram is testing a new profile grid layout that shows images as rectangular instead of a regular square. The Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, announced it in an Instagram Story. He said, “The vast majority of what is uploaded to Instagram today is vertical… And cropping it down to square is pretty brutal.” This layout will be similar to the video tab, which has featured a rectangular grid for a long time.
Still, it is not available for everyone, as while talking to The Verge, an Instagram Spokesman stated, “We are testing a vertical grid with a small number of people, and we’ll be listening to feedback from the community before rolling anything out further.” Since Instagram is testing a new profile grid layout, you should be prepared that any day, the square profiles can be changed into rectangular.
Furthermore, there have been some hints about rectangle-style grids since 2022, and it looks like it is finally happening. Mosseri also has an idea that the new change might be irritating for some people but says “I would really like to do better by the content today.”
