Apple will release AirTag 2 in 2025 with a much longer range for item tracking. On Sunday, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman released his news in a newsletter stating that Apple AirTag 2 will feature an ultra-wideband chip just like the iPhone 15-level chip.
Ultra Wideband is a short-range radio technology that allows 3-D alertness. In the Apple system, this technology enables precision finding to enable accurate distance and track guidance for object tracking. However, the Apple AirTag 1 works at a range of about 33-98 ft (10-30 meters) away with Accuracy Finding. The UWB chip will extend three times farther; it means the minimum location-finding range will climb up to 30 meters.
Additionally, Apple is also working on the internal design of AirTag 2 and making the speaker more difficult to remove. This change in AirTag would discourage bad actors from illegal activities like stalking and stealing.
